The Mixmag Lab lands in Bali with house legend Theo Parrish

After successful editions in Dhaka and Hong Kong, the world-renowned Mixmag Lab launches its first-ever event on the beaches of Bali at La Brisa.

Scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, the line-up will be headlined by none other than one of house music’s godfathers, Theo Parrish.

Since the 1980s, Mixmag has documented global club culture while staying rooted in the energy of local scenes. Its regional platforms have given communities the chance to shape the magazine in ways that reflect their own dancefloors.

That same spirit comes to the Island of the Gods with the launch of The Mixmag Lab Bali, arriving at a moment when the island is drawing more attention than ever from the wider electronic music world.

Hosted at La Brisa, The Mixmag Lab Bali is a collaboration between Mixmag Asia and the newly launched Mixmag ANZ, marking a family-style collaboration that further strengthens the APAC music bridge. The event forms part of Mixmag’s renowned global series of filmed sets, celebrated for its intimate atmosphere and 360-degree stage design.

Set on the foreshore of Echo Beach, La Brisa is an eco-focused venue built entirely from reclaimed wood from over 500 old fishing boats. Its blend of nature and design provides the backdrop for one of the most stunning Mixmag Lab events yet.

For its first edition, The Mixmag Lab Bali welcomes Theo Parrish for an extended three-hour set. A cornerstone of house music, Parrish brings decades of artistry and influence, offering a rare chance to hear one of the genre’s most respected voices in such a setting.

Outside of his own work, Parrish’s influence within house and dance music more broadly has been felt through his label, Sound Signature, and his presence in the supergroup 3 Chairs (alongside Moodymann, Rick Wilhite, and Marcellus Pittman). Parrish’s career has seen him define not only the sound of house music, but its attitude and identity, as a proudly and often defiantly Black art form.

Joining him is Munir AKA Midnight Runners, widely recognised for his work in reviving Indonesian disco and funk, which can also be seen through his online media and publishing company Peace Freedom. Through his DJ sets and archival efforts, he has become a vital link between Indonesia’s musical past and its future on the global stage, having released on notable imprints such as Razor-N-Tape, Tugboat Edits, and Fauve Records.

Rounding out the line-up is Rok Riley from Boorloo/Perth. Handpicked by Parrish himself, she has spent over two decades shaping the city’s scene as a DJ, presenter, and mentor. A rare ambassador for Boorloo’s underground dance scene, Rok Riley has also been hosting her own show ‘Full Frequency’ on RTRFM since 2009.
