Welcome to Mixmag Australia/NZ’s guide to the best releases of September 2024.

Each month we’re bringing you updates and recommendations of the best electronic music released around Australia and New Zealand. Expect everything from the darkest depths of techno, to the highest highs of house, and everything in between as we take stock of the most exciting, addictive and experimental sounds happening around us.

Read on for reviews and links to stream and buy the music.

Purchasing music through stores like Bandcamp does so much for the artists you love and we encourage you to support them if you have the means.

We hope you enjoy.

Emelexy / Homelander - 'Psyte Seeing' [niobe]

The debut release by brand new Naarm/Melbourne label niobe, ‘Psyte Seeing’ is an experimental and protean prospect of how music will sound. Described by producers Emelexy & Homelander as "an audiotour to trek you around a strange & patterned sound-world", they’re not lying. Watch this one.

Arky Waters - 'Roadkilla' [Mammal Sounds]

'Roadkilla' is the latest single by Eora/Sydney based producer Arky Waters. This piano heavy breakbeat is a gutsy and attitude-driven introduction to an artist already with a series of big singles under his belt this year.

Arno Faraji - 'Return to Raji' [Self Released]

'Return to Raji' is the debut album by Boorloo/Perth-based rapper Arno Faraji. While hip hop first & foremost, the production on this release would see many of its tracks feeling perfectly comfortable in a club or on a sunny dance floor.

Miss Kaninna - 'KANINNA' [Soul Has No Tempo]

Proud Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung, Kalkadoon and Yirendali artist Miss Kaninna has been hard to ignore since the release of her debut single ‘Blak Britney’ last year. This last month her first EP, simply titled KANINNA, rocked us.

FOURA - 'Rudeboy' [NLV Records]

‘Rudeboy’ does what it says on the tin. FOURA’s latest UK inspired D&B heater is clearly designed with backspins in mind, with UK grime and bass veterans Subten and GHS on feature.

Kito - 'BIMYOU' [Mad Decent]

Kito’s 'BIMYOU' is a bouncy, feature heavy package that covers a wide range of sounds clearly & comfortably within the producer’s arsenal. With like-minded collaborators Baauer, Wafi, St. Panther and more on board, it’s rare that recommendations come this crowd sourced.
