Welcome to Mixmag Australia/NZ’s guide to the best releases of August 2024.

Expect everything from the darkest depths of techno, to the highest highs of house, and everything in between as we take stock of the most exciting, addictive and experimental sounds happening around us.
Read on for reviews and links to stream and buy the music.
Purchasing music through stores like Bandcamp does so much for the artists you love and we encourage you to support them if you have the means.
We hope you enjoy.
1tbsp - 'megacity1000' (Sumoclic)
'megacity1000' is the second full length by 1tbsp. A concept based around a miniature metropolis of the future heavily influenced by modern Latin club music, this is a fun and intricate listen from start to finish.
gi - 'Thought Makes Music' (Absorb)
Outside the limits of what can be considered “dance music” is gi’s ‘Thought Makes Music’. The Eora-based producer and performer has released her longest piece of work to date via Naarm-based label Absorb. Its murkiness, depth and sense of narrative make this a release not to miss.
xav - 'in a weird cube' (The Space Between Us)
‘in a weird cube’ is the product of Barcelona-via-Naarm based producer, Xav, out via much beloved label ‘The Space Between Us’. This is cheeky, deep and above all else, very bouncy.
Donatachi - 'Ascension' (Central Station Records)
Donatachi brings us a 7 track EP with plenty to say, in the form of ‘Ascension’. The Eora local goes everywhere from bright hyperpop to dark breaks & acidlines, sprinkled with a signature serving of the Donatachi vocal flair & plenty of features.
RY & SOVBLKPSSY - 'ASBESTOS / JOBSEEKER' (Self Released)
Rydeen & SOVBLKPSSY come together for a double single that’s bursting with energy on 'ASBESTOS / JOBSEEKER'. Two tracks seemingly designed in a lab to take any dance floor to 11, we can only hope that these two keep at it together.
Human Movement - 'Subtle' (Gallery Recs)
‘Subtle’ is yet another crisp & put together release by Human Movement, released by the equally consistent & uplifting Gallery Recs. Human Movement is someone you can trust to really spice up a room, and this release proves that four times. Our favourite, 'Beirut', is a meaningful and driving ode to the producer’s heritage.
Juno Mamba - Cold Rush (Soothsayer)
'Cold Rush' is the latest release by Filipino-Australian producer Juno Mamba. The artist, no stranger to electronic music as a member of electronic outfit Gold Fields in the 2010s, demonstrates his deep understanding of a variety of genres on this release. Very, very emotive.
