Logic1000 & Vv Pete reflect on their latest collaboration 'heartbeat [rebirth]' in tag team interview
"...it's the theme song for a sexy, confident, reckless (in a good way) woman who is unapologetically herself. (Vv???)"
Logic1000 is an Australian-born, currently Berlin-based producer and DJ, who rose to huge prominence through the COVID-19 pandemic with her soulful, melodic productions done collaboratively with her husband, Big Ever.
Her debut album ‘Mother’, released in March of this year, and in the last few weeks saw a ‘[rebirth]’, with two tracks getting the remix treatment alongside vocals by Vv Pete and Empress Of.
‘heartbeat [rebirth]’ is the collaborative effort of Mount Druitt rapper Vv Pete and Logic. While the original holds its own as a driving expression of womanly attitude, Vv Pete’s signature vocal stylings bring a whole new life and attitude to the track.
Mixmag ANZ had the pleasure of chatting with both Vv and Logic about the release, their time collaborating with each other, the future of Australian music globally, and more.
You’re both Australian, but collaborating from very far away. How did it feel teeing up a project like this at such incredibly different parts of the world, but coming from the same place?
Vv Pete: Yeah, it’s so cool. I felt really excited when they reached out, I feel like it's great global exposure and shows how as Australian artists we have so much to share musically beyond our home.
Logic1000: It’s honestly the only way we’ve ever worked when collaborating for Logic, so it’s all i know! Pre-pandemic we were just using samples, then during the pandemic we were collaborating with artists online and that has somehow carried on post-pandemic.
It would be such a dream for all four of us to get in the studio together IRL, because i can only imagine how magic the energy would be.

We’re seeing the line between dance, pop & hip hop blurring more now than ever before. Why do you think it’s happening now, of all times?
Vv Pete: I feel like the music scene is shifting because the world has been exposed to more genres online - my music is naturally multi-genre but has the Vv sound anywhere I go.
Logic1000: I feel like everything in our world is accelerating at a ridiculously fast rate and music and genres are part of that. It makes total sense to me that genres would start morphing and colliding. We’re all primed for new and interesting things these days so i guess one way to satiate that is to combine things like rap/dance/pop and other genres to create something fresh and exciting for our brains.
-
What do you hope for the future of music as those lines blur even further?
Vv Pete: I hope that music helps people get through mental health difficulties through their everyday life. With my music I hope it helps my audience overcome obstacles, especially women but people of all ages and circumstances. I hope my lyricism is able to inspire people, and that the music industry provides more opportunities and support for upcoming artists.
Logic1000: I actually love the idea of a musical landscape that has no constraints. to me that is so liberating - to not have to be defined or confined by any one genre. like, artists just creating the unique amalgam of every kind of music that they have been exposed to? But also, if that happens, I think it’s super important to stay mindful of the historical context of all electronic/dance music. That really, really shouldn’t be forgotten and should continue to be celebrated.
-
How did it feel for both of you working on a track that’s, generally, a little outside of what you normally make as an individual?
Vv Pete: I felt it was risk taking. I love risk taking and this beat took me out of my comfort zone, but if i was able to take that step, what is the worst that could happen!? It was exciting and I’ve shown I can take on genres outside of my usual style and make it my own.
Logic1000: I loved working with Vv’s rap vocals on this. As i mentioned earlier, in 2024 our brains are so ready for new and exciting things and mine is no exception. so to be working with a rapper like Vv was so fresh and exciting to me. It gave me this huge boost of creative energy! Thankyou Vv.

There’s an unshakeable attitude that comes through both on the instrumental & in Vv’s vocals. How did you both align the kind of attitude you wanted the ‘rebirth’ to spotlight?
Vv Pete: Through storytelling; by writing the song I was telling a story. I stay authentic and show that in my lyricism.
Logic1000: For me it’s the hook! Previously, when the track was just an instrumental, it was just kind of rolling and maybe went under the radar? But when vv dropped her vocals on it, it morphed into something that really stood out to me. Especially when her hook comes in, it brings this dynamic energy and i think it flings the track into being quite energetic and personally i think it’s more interesting.
I had full confidence in Vv with this. it's the reason we wanted her on this particular track. It’s so tough and icy and steezy and sexy and we really felt like that is the essence of Vvs work as an artist. She really brought her ‘essence’ to the track.
-
Do you have someone or something in mind for this collaboration? Like, if this were the theme / runway song for someone’s life, what kind of person do you hope that to be?
Vv Pete: I feel like it would be a bright confident person and a very hardworking person.
Logic1000: I feel like it's the theme song for a sexy, confident, reckless (in a good way) woman who is unapologetically herself. (Vv???)
-
Coming from two quite different musical backgrounds, who are some artists you think we should be aware of?
Vv Pete: Shoutout to my sis birdie, she is gonna come out of Australia for sure, I vibe with her.
Logic1000: This is going to seem like a very random list lol, but some artists i’ve been really enjoying lately are: Maina Doe, Okay Kaya, Smerz, Babyfather, Stacy kidd, Wallace.
-
Any collaborative efforts lined up for the two of you that you can give us the inside word on?
Logic1000: Tom (my musical partner/husband) and I have been talking to Utility and Vv about working on some new beats that we will send to them. It’s just about getting the time amongst life and parenting and touring. But when we do, we know Vv and Utility are going to make something exceptional out of it!
Vv Pete: All I’m gonna say is - SHAKE IT. And watch this space in the next few months…
