Untitled Group announces DRIFT, a new single-day festival for Boorloo and Meanjin in 2027

Untitled Group, the Naarm/Melbourne-based promoter behind Beyond The Valley, Pitch Music & Arts and Ability Fest, has announced ‘DRIFT’, a new single-day dance-focused festival that will run across two stages in Boorloo/Perth and Meanjin/Brisbane in early 2027.

Its inaugural editions are set to take place at Ozone Reserve in Boorloo on Sunday, February 28 and presented in collaboration with local promoter Garbage, while the Meanjin edition follows at the Gateway Bridge Underpass on Saturday, March 6, presented by Untitled Group alongside Ascend and Kindacool.

Although the two events share a name and creative direction, Untitled Group says each is built around its location, describing Boorloo as a late-summer Sunday beside the water and the Meanjin date as a Saturday night with a more industrial character, set among the concrete infrastructure beneath the bridge.

Each edition will also receive its own distinct visual identity and unique stage designs.

The festival takes its name from the idea of drifting off, the state between being awake and falling asleep, and that concept has shaped the lead-up to the announcement.

Ahead of the full reveal of the festival and its lineup, ‘The Drift Study’ invites people in Perth and Brisbane to take part in a fictional sleep study through a series of cryptic clues and a dedicated website.

Nicholas Greco, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Untitled Group, said in the announcement that the company wanted DRIFT to go beyond a conventional festival format.

“There’s something really special about launching a brand new festival, and with DRIFT, we wanted to create something that goes beyond the traditional festival experience,” he said.

“Built around the feeling of getting lost in the music and discovering something unexpected, DRIFT will bring international and local artists into unique settings. Perth and Brisbane have such strong electronic music communities, and we’re excited to bring DRIFT to both cities in 2027.”

No artists have been named for either date, and ticket prices and on-sale timing have not yet been released, although fans can now register for pre-sale access through the festival’s website.
