Tora Bombora reveals its 2027 lineup

Following the announcement of its long-awaited return in early 2027, the boutique Wairarapa festival Tora Bombora has unveiled its lineup this week. Set to bring together a variety of local favourites, emerging talent, and key global appearances, the intimate festival aims to deliver an unforgettable relaunch.

In ending a four-year hiatus, the confirmation of the festival’s revival last month sees one of Aotearoa/New Zealand’s beloved local gatherings return at a time arguably never more difficult for festivals to do so.

Known for its intimate approach to both crowd and curation, Tora Bombora returns to its home on the coastline of Tora, Wairarapa from Friday, January 22 to Sunday, January 24 next year, and expands its capacity to now invite 2,000 people.

Leading its lineup announcement, shared yesterday, is Dallas Tamaira of Fat Freddy’s Drop, set to debut his band and solo project at its first-ever festival appearance. Naarm/Melbourne’s acclaimed jazz-house band Close Counters will also debut at Tora, along with Puerto Rico’s Pachyman, Dharawal Land/Wollongong’s Warbaby, Arakwal Land/Byron Bay artists Yellow The Sun and Smokey Cake, as well as a variety of locals including AMA-winning artist MĀ, SEREBII, DJ and producer Christoph El Truento, Wellington-based psych-soul collective Casual Healing, and many others.

Also joining the lineup is The Lahaar, a Trans-Tasman supergroup collaboration between Aotearoa-based drummer, percussionist and producer Julien Dyne (Soundway Records, Avantdale Bowling Club, Circling Sun, Half Hexagon, Ladi 6) and Naarm musicians Lachlan Stuckey (Surprise Chef) on guitar and Horatio Luna (30/70) on bass.

Festival creator Louis Murphy Harris says that supporting emerging artists has always been at the heart of Tora Bombora:

“Tora Bombora has always been a celebration of emerging talent. We're incredibly lucky to have Wellington just over the hill, with an endless pool of amazing emerging and established musicians and creatives. Every year we try to create a lineup that reflects that while also bringing exciting international artists to the coast."

While the lineup is a major drawcard, Louis says it's only one part of what makes the Tora Bombora experience so special:

"It's the location, the kaupapa and the festival. Tora Bombora is an experience and melting pot of creativity from all angles."
