Swarm of “right-wing ultras” attack Glasgow venue McChuills Music Bar
Up to 40 people were said to have attempted an attack on the venue over the weekend.
Glasgow venue McChuills Music Bar is calling for solidarity after it was attacked by a far-right mob over the weekend, Resident Advisor reports.
According to McChuills, the live music venue was swarmed by “up to 40 right-wing ultras” on Saturday, September 7, who “attempted and failed” an attack.
The venue, which prides itself on its anti-fascist ethos and staunch liberal views, confirmed that “no one was hurt” and that events will continue as normal following the attack.

“As ever, McChuills stands against fascists and racism in all its forms. This is a place where everyone is welcome, no matter who they support, who they love, who they worship or how they vote,” they said in a statement on Instagram.
“With one exception, which we made very clear this afternoon,” they added. The incident took place amidst ongoing demonstrations in Glasgow, including a “pro-UK rally” backed by Tommy Robinson, which has been met with counter, anti-racism protests.
The Guardian reports that “thousands” showed up in solidarity with the counter-protests on Saturday, while a smaller group of anti-immigration protesters congregated in Glasgow’s George Square.

Two men were arrested after an “aggressive” incident broke out during demonstrations, STV News reports. A 40-year-old man was arrested over an alleged hate crime, while a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of carrying an “offensive weapon”.
In response to the attack, McChuills said on Instagram: “All events in the bar and venue tonight are now free entry. Come on down, have a good night and stand in solidarity with all of us here.”
Earlier this year, McChuills was shortlisted for the Community Pub Hero Award 2024, an award set up to celebrate businesses in the UK that play an essential role in their local communities.
