Orbit DJ Retreat launches demo competition aimed at new producers

Orbit DJ Retreats, originally home to Ibiza since 2019 but now taking place in Australia for the first time, has just announced it will be making a scholarship to this year's available based purely on merit. In collaboration with Gadigal Land/Sydney-based label and publishing group Sweat It Out, alongside Red Bull's Australian arm, the brands have offered one aspiring music producer a career-defining opportunity.

To have a chance at attending this year's inaugural Australian event, taking place from August 24 - 29 of this year in Cavanbah/Byron Bay, all budding producers have to do is submit a demo. If the judges, made up of some of Orbit's own team, like what you're doing, you'll be invited to head along with all the bells and whistles.

This will include:

  • A fully funded place at Orbit DJ Retreats in Byron Bay, including accommodation, mentorship, and production workshops (facilitated by Red Bull).
  • Personalised one-on-one sessions with leading producers, DJs, and industry executives.
  • The chance to pitch their winning track to Sweat It Out A&Rs for potential release consideration.
  • A performance slot at the retreat’s graduation showcase at Byron Bay Beach Hotel and Elsewhere Gold Coast.

All finalists will receive direct feedback from these industry professionals, who will no doubt provide valuable insights into your work and development.

Of the competition, Doorly, co-founder of Orbit DJ Retreats, said, "at Orbit DJ Retreats, our mission is to discover and nurture the next generation of talent. With Red Bull facilitating this scholarship and Sweat It Out providing the chance for artists to pitch their music, we’re offering an incredible opportunity for an emerging producer to take their career to the next level. We’re excited to hear what fresh talent comes through."

Since the debut retreat in 2019, Orbit has witnessed incredible achievements by its alumni, from signing to top labels like Gorgon City’s REALM and Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels to landing dream gigs and touring globally.

Who this competition winner could become remains to be seen.

Entries close on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, and are still open at this link.
