Four Tet's mysterious 'wingdings' font spotted around Australia

Four Tet is coming back to Australia, or so it would seem.

Across the country today, posters have been spotted plastered with the artist’s mysterious ‘wingdings’ style font. While understandably gibberish to some, the font has become a calling card for one of Four Tet’s lesser-promoted projects, all of which still ooze with his signature texture and flavour.

Linked through these posters is a link to a website, which shows these same wingdings characters over a pixelated background. Eagle-eyed fans may be able to draw a connection between the colours presented on this background and other Four Tet imagery.

The artist has, in recent years, exploded in popularity once again due to his high-profile collaborations with the likes of Fred Again… and Skrillex, however these posters and website appear to be appealing to the kind of Four Tet fan with a little more exposure to his work.

Alongside the font and website appears a date, 10.25, hinting that the artist will be visiting Australian shores in October of this year.

The question remains however, where would he play?

Taking a look at Kieran’s own website, we can see that he’s played just about every festival Australia has on offer. In 2023, this was Pitch Music & Arts, Golden Plains, Listen Out, and appearances at Lost Sundays and Space Is The Place. In 2019, he visited much of the same, with a live set at Gadigal Land/Sydney’s Enmore theatre. In 2016, he graced The Sydney Opera House, Belvoir Amphitheatre in Boorloo/Perth, and NYD’s Let Them Eat Cake. Back in 2014, he toured around the country for Listen Out and Laneway Festival on two separate occasions, stopping only for a sideshow at the legendary Goodgod Small Club, with a tour in 2012 and as early as 2009 following similar formats.

But what is on in October?

In recent years, his collaborator Fred Again… embarked on a hugely successful sell-out tour, generating a near-endless stream of news and coverage. Similarly, Australia’s own Dom Dolla just recently announced a headline show at Allianz Stadium, demonstrating that there is a huge appetite for dance music on a stadium level here at home.

Four Tet’s history of appearances would suggest a festival, however. He’s vocally voiced support and admiration for many of Australia’s festivals, after all.

With such a vast difference across his work and the environments he plays in, where Four Tet chooses to place his feet down on this next tour will no doubt be crucial for many fans.

With that question so up in the air, we’ll excitedly hold our breath until the official word is released.
