A high energy artist shares an insight into moments spent with a little less in the tank.

Late nights and self-care may not appear to go hand in hand, but for artists like Mincy, it's a necessity.

The Gadigal Land/Sydney-based producer, founder of label Extra Spicy and co-founder of bass-haven Dayshift is a woman in increasing demand. This summer, Mincy is set to have one of her busiest to date, featuring at all manner of gigs, including both Boorloo/Perth and Meanjin/Brisbane for Wildlands, delivering her signature brand of high-energy enthusiasm.

To balance that kind of schedule, she's all too aware that sometimes the BPM needs to wind down, just a tad. So, to help our inner metronome and ease what may ail us after an increasingly busy festival season, she's put together a playlist of some of her favourite tracks for after the afterparty.

"Post-festival kick ons you won’t catch me listening to anything hard or fast. Back home with the crew, it's full chill mode, with playlists rammed full of nostalgic classics, UK trip hop and golden era house and jackin. The perfect music to talk over each other to," she shared.

Listen to the playlist via Apple Music.

Foamo, Lotti - 'Release Me'

Nostalgia on this one ramped up to 11! A classic from one of the best periods in dance music. Just your classic emotional bopper with good sing along potential, and if you're blessed with a shuffling enthusiast in your crew this will almost certainly get them cutting shapes in your living room.

Cult Of The Damned - 'Cult Of The Damned'

Post festival kick ons at our place aren’t complete without some UK hip hop, and this is one of my favourites. That slinky bass tickles the brain real good.

Sniff - 'Highlands'

Continuing the UK hip hop theme, we couldn’t not have a tune from the very talented Sniff in here. Perfect for the super wind down hours. The piano doing the legwork on this one, full eyes closed head bop moment.

Tricky - 'Puppy Toy'

This one's been a long-standing love of mine, and has featured at many, many afterparties I’ve attended since its release 16 years ago! Tricky is a genius, to be honest, you could just chuck the entire Knowle West Boy album on, and you’d be set to go, but this is the standout.

Joshua Idehen - 'Stretch For The Stars (K-Lone Vocal Mix)'

Gorgeous pads with killer vocals from Joshua Idehen and some hints of early UKG, a full wrist flicker here. This ones a pretty recent release and have loved it since i first heard it.

Trellion - 'Yup'

This playlist might be outing me as secret a UK hip hop enthusiast. This one featured heavily in my years living in the UK and has soundtracked a lot of very fun after parties when i was partying a lot in Sheffield. Super minimal production with Trell’s tripped out vocals and those samples - hard not to love.

Leon Vynehall - 'It’s Just (House of Dupree)'

A straight house music classic, and if there's one thing you need post festival, it's good, solid house music. Some serious nostalgia with this tune and a huge serotonin booster. I've considered bootlegging it many times but think I might be doing it a disservice, as it's pretty perfect the way it is.

Cult of The Damned - 'Civilised'

Yep, we’re back on Cult Of The Damned, but I promise they’re worth the double playlisting. This one needs to be paired with watching the official video of it while you're unwinding. A one long shot extravaganza, you almost forget to listen to how clever the lyrics are.

Mincy - 'Nice Girls Make Breakbeat'

Would I play my own tunes at an afterparty? Yep probably. Lol. But this one does definitely deserve a spot. Made this a few years ago, completely not my usual sound, but one of my favourite tunes I've ever made. I can't write about my own music, it's too weird, just listen to it, you’ll like it.

Baby Bash - 'Suga Suga'

I don't even need to explain why I’ve included this. Just get it on and get singing.

Alex Reece - 'Pulp Fiction'

Certified classic coming up to almost 20 years old and still bangs. Another one that’s great for when you’re winding down, but still need a bit of dance music going. Very simple but heavy bassline with that trumpet sample, starts to get a bit hypnotic.

Loco Dice - 'Get Comfy feat. Giggs'

When techno and grime meet in the perfect middle ground. This was such a huge eye opener for me when it first came out, there were a few other crossovers like this happening at the time but if we’re winding down, this is going on.

95 North - 'Let Yourself Go'

This one's sitting in that perfect world between house and garage. The shuffly drums are perfection, tough not to catch a vibe with this one. Such a gem.

Mincy x Askew Bedu - 'NOPOPO'

Righto, one more from me, but to be honest, I included this more for Askew’s contribution. If you aren't already aware of him, now would be the time to get to know. He’s my favourite MC in Australia, and we’ve collabed on many tunes, but this one is maybe our most emotional banger. Gets a bit deep, but doesn't everyone at after parties?

Groove Chronicles - 'Stone Cold'

This is so close to taking out the top spot as the greatest UKG record of all time for me (only just beat by KMA Production - Cape Fear). That Reese bass in that breakdown is nothing short of perfection. I lived in a share house in London with three mates a while ago, and this was one of the only vinyls we had in the house, and I cannot tell you how many times this got rinsed at 4 in the morning to a room full of people not ready to go to bed.
