Genesis Owusu shares his dance-heavy rotation playlist, 'Just Keeps Going'
Following the release of Owusu's dance-inspired track 'Life Keeps Going', the artist gives us everything he's got on rotation.
The foray into more dance-heavy territory has been one of the clearest shifts in recent musical memory.
Across the globe, artists have come to understand the power of the dance floor, creating work that feels at home in spaces more popular than ever. Genesis Owusu's latest single, 'LIFE KEEPS GOING', is among the latest in that string of shifts.
The award-winning artist has for years stood out as one of Australia's most creatively expressive artists, with work that has historically leaned further into hip hop, R&B, but in recent times experimented with punk, funk, and now more electronic-leaning production.
The single, the latest from his upcoming album 'REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE', sees the artist waxing lyrical about the final dance before the world ends over an IDM-inspired beat.
Of the track, Owusu shared, "Owusu says: “The world hasn’t ended yet. We’re still moving, we’re still jumping, we’re still living, and so we shall continue. Through rain, shine, exploitation and warfare. We, the people, will always stubbornly persist, and hopefully persist hand in hand.”
On the cusp of his accompanying tour for the album's release, Genesis Owusu shared a series of his favourite dance cuts that have helped to inspire the track.

QUE DJ & DJ LAG - 'WHERE'S YOUR FATHER'

SKIN ON SKIN - 'LET ME SAY THIS'
"AU icon since the uvboi days. Will always have time and love for Manny, a true pioneer."
DAYARGA - 'CAPOTE'
"Congolese-French artist Dayarga is revitalising some classic soukous/rhumba music into a modern context with this one. Incessant energy."
NINAJIRACHI - 'CSIRAC'
"Nina has been grinding for so long, and it’s so great to see her break out in a big way in the last year. One of my favs from her debut album."
DJ FLEX - 'COUPÉ DÉCALÉ'
"Putting you onto some more heat out of Africa, DJ Flex out of Ghana. Chopping up all kinds of samples from his backyard into a track that can be felt worldwide."
DOECHII - 'ALTER EGO'
"Doechii is a true, hungry ass artist, and no one can take her flowers away from her. This one’s for the ballroom."
RXKNEPHEW - 'BEAM ON YA TOES'
"Absurdity of the highest order. The rhythms are bangin' even if he may not be the best role model."
RYAN FENNIS - 'DREAMSTATE'
"Just like the title states, this does feel like a dreamstate, but one of those dreams where you're falling or running really slowly. It's a bit haunting, in the best way."
