We create inclusive spaces for people to dance, connect and have fun. Having run a number of parties across Naarm, our goal is to facilitate social connections that go beyond the dancefloor and into the formation of communities that support, uplift and look out for each other all while ensuring everyone feels comfortable getting a bit silly on the dance floor. As DJ’s, the Succulent Funk team bring an exciting blend of House, Disco & more to the dance floor, often with a global twist. Our aim is to shift dance floor culture by creating dynamic installations that blend the past and present, fostering social connections and putting the spotlight on the partygoers, cultivating supportive and safe communities.
Descend into Collingwood Basement, and disappear into the rhythm. This is a big one.
Club De Migo and Succulent Funk are proud to present a name that needs little introduction, Nathan Haines. Across three decades, Nathan has sat astride the exact point where jazz meets dance music, moving fluidly between saxophonist, producer, DJ and bandleader without ever losing the thread that ties it all together. From his gold-certified breakthrough Squire for Hire with Phil Asher, collaboration with the great Marlena Shaw, to a run of 11 albums championed by the likes of Louie Vega, Honey Dijon, Danny Krivit, Francois K and Atjazz, his influence on disco, house, broken beat and drum n bass runs deep - even if you've never heard his name, you've almost certainly danced to his sound.
Jack and Fiachra (Club De Migo) have caught Nathan live and behind the decks countless times across New Zealand’s underground scene (think Flamingo Pier, Body Electric and Afternoon Delight), and are thrilled to finally bring him to the basement for a DJ / live performance, where Nathan plays saxophone and flute over his own productions and those of his closest collaborators. Expect a night that moves through disco, house, jazz and soul in one spiritual uplift - joined in the basement by Jasper Miles, Jack Royal and Bonnita.
Low ceilings, close quarters and a feeling. One hour becomes four, and before you know it you're locked into the groove all night long.
Smoke, sweat and soul with the Club De Migo touch. We'll see you downstairs on Friday October 23rd.
This event is being held on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nations. Always was, always will be.
