Revolver Upstairs is one of Australia’s most respected nightclubs and the late night DJ spots showcase Melbourne’s best DJs as well as frequently hosting interstate Australian and international touring DJs.
After the daytime service, live bands, art shows and restaurant taper down on Fridays, the club kicks off and runs right through to midday on Saturday. A few short hours later the venue reopens at 5pm running right through until 9am on Monday. The resident DJ roster reads like a who’s who of influential Melbourne artists including such names as Ransom, Boogs, Mike Callander, Spacey Space, T-Rek, Sunshine and Lewis CanCut amongst many others past and present. The Sunday day parties are a unique clubbing experience and have garnered a loyal following.
Soothsayer & Revolver Sundays join forces this Public Holiday Eve for a highly anticipated five-hour journey with Daniel Avery. Doors from 10pm into Monday recovery.
For well over a decade Daniel Avery has shone as a singular artist and one of the scene’s most forward-thinking voices.
2025’s ‘Tremor’ cemented Avery’s constant evolution as a producer and collaborator at its highest point yet, a distorted fever dream of a record spanning ambient and hardcore alongside the steady throb of contemporary techno and his instinctive rock sensibilities. It featured vocals from Ellie Roswell of Wolf Alice and Alison Mosshart of The Kills appearing alongside yeule, NewDad and bdrmm. With it came the Midnight Versions, Avery steering the entire album back into the world of the club where he has carved out a unique space.
“Gimmick free machine funk of the highest order”, was Andrew Weatherall’s summation of Avery in 2012, his endorsement helping begin a journey that gathered much momentum soon after with the release of his debut album, ‘Drone Logic,’ now considered an undisputed modern classic.
In parallel, DJing remains a constant at clubs and festivals internationally. Whether solo, often for marathon sets, or back-to-back in the company of like-minded souls including Helena Hauff, HAAi, DJ Stingray, IMOGEN or Richard Fearless, a figure with whom he forms a partnership and party known as ‘Goo’, a Sunday afternoon service in reverence of all sounds psychedelic.
With three BBC Essential Mixes, a FABRICLIVE and a DJ-Kicks all under his belt, it’s notable that Avery refuses to stay still even after all this time. He remains a unique DJ, ever-evolving but forever shining bright.
